Admission

Holders of a university degree in the Life Sciences can apply for admission to the Master program. Applicants with research experience and/or with a university position receive priority in admission, i.e. graduates in medicine, biology, pharmacy, dentistry and related disciplines.

Application has to be done by:

  • all students with diplomas issued outside the Flemish Community
  • students with a foreign undergraduate diploma, already registered at the VUB.

Requirements

Admission is based upon acceptance of the VUB Application Form for Admission.

New procedure for Chinese students

From the academic year 2007-2008 onwards all students from the P.R. China will have to obtain a certificate of academic screening issued by the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) of the German Embassy in Beijing before being allowed to enrol at any higher education institution, language course or other preparatory course in Flanders. The APS certificate is also required for obtaining a student visa to Belgium. More information on APS can be found at www.aps.org.cn

The completed VUB Application Form for Admission, together with all required documents, should be returned to: Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Registrar's Office, Pleinlaan 2, B-1050 Brussel (Belgium).

Application deadline

Taking into account that it takes at least one month to examine the application, and that it may take several months before a student visa can be obtained, the following deadlines need to be strictly observed:

  • 30 March 2009: Non EU-nationalities:
  • 1 June 2009: EU-nationalities

Please apply before these dates, preferrably before 1 March. Applicants who apply on the very last day cannot be guaranteed a registration.

Application forms can also be obtained from the Registrar's Office: inschrijvingen@vub.ac.be.

Remark!

The application file needs to be examined at four levels (the Study Counselling, the Social Service, the Cell and Gene Therapy Program and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy). Upon acceptance, the registrar's office will send an official admission letter. This whole procedure takes at least one month before the letter can be sent.

Please be informed that:

  • No admission to the course can be given if the student has no proof of sufficient financial support during his /her stay in Brussels.
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed.
